Das Bürgerliche Gesetzbuch (BGB) regelt die Rechtsbeziehungen zwischen Privaten. Der im ersten Buch zu findende Allgemeine Teil trifft Regelungen, die für das gesamte BGB und die nachfolgenden vier Bücher (Schuldrecht, Sachenrecht, Familienrecht, Erbrecht) von grundlegender Bedeutung sind. Hierzu gehören insbesondere die Vorschriften über Rechtsgeschäfte (Geschäftsfähigkeit, Willenserklärung, Vertrag, Stellvertretung), die einen Schwerpunkt der Vorlesung ausmachen werden. Daneben führt die Veranstaltung allgemein in das Bürgerliche Recht und die Bearbeitung zivilrechtlicher Fälle ein. Sie wird durch eine vierzehntägig stattfindende propädeutische Fallübung ergänzt, in der die Lösung zivilrechtlicher Fälle gemeinsam trainiert werden soll.
Die Materialien zur Vorlesung werden auf der E-Learning-Plattform Jurmoodle zur Verfügung gestellt. Das Passwort wird in der Vorlesung bekanntgegegeben. Eine Vorlesungs- und Literaturübersicht kann auch über die Dokumentenablage des eKVV abgerufen werden.

Der gewinnbringende Besuch der Vorlesung setzt eine Vor- und Nachbereitung des Stoffes mithilfe eines Lehrbuchs voraus. Über geeignete Literatur wird zu Beginn der Vorlesung gesprochen. Vorweg sei auf folgende „Kurz“-Lehrbücher hingewiesen:

- Schack, Haimo, BGB – Allgemeiner Teil, 14. Aufl., Heidelberg 2013Absolut unabdingbar ist ferner ein aktuelles BGB. Empfohlen wird die bei Beck im dtv erschienene Textausgabe (derzeit 73. Aufl., 2014, 5,50 €). Jede andere Ausgabe ist jedoch ebenfalls ausreichend, sofern sie den aktuellen Gesetzestext enthält. Von der Ersetzung der gedruckten Textausgabe durch eine rein elektronische Fassung ist dringend abzuraten.
