Improve the existing Virtual SkillsLab and add new virtual training sessions.
Project Background & Aims
Virtual reality simulations are an excellent tool for the training of job skills. Immersive simulations have been used for a long time in the domain of military training and the training of emergency situations. Now, however, due to the decreasing costs of the required hardware, the creation of training simulations is of interest to a much larger spectrum. In the area of higher education, for example, the learning of theoretical knowledge is in many areas of studies accompanied by practical training, for example in the laboratories of the natural sciences. At Bielefeld Applied University, a special training area for the education of health care personnel has been implemented, which is called SkillsLab. While such a local replication of a real working space is a great support for the manual training, it is also a restricted ressource. The aim of the project is to accompany the manual training conducted in the physical SkillsLab by a pre-training in a virtual SkillsLab to teach and consolidate the general process.
Project Description
Together with partners from the Applied University of Bielefeld, an interesting training process will be identified. This process will be virtualized and implemented for the mobile VR platforms (GearVR and/or Cardboard).
