Mathematics is a subject that most biologists only take in high school, yet many biologists later come to realize that greater familiarity with mathematics would serve them well. For example in understanding papers, for developing new theories and for generating the appropriate models to interpret data. In this course we will use the book 'A Biologists Guide to Mathematical Modelling in Ecology and Evolution' by Sarah Otto and Troy Day, which aims to be a guide for biologists in improving their math abilities. We will discuss how to construct models, discuss different types of models used in Ecology and Evolution, and discuss how to analyze these different types of models. The module will involve a combination of reading, exercises, lectures and discussions. The course will be held in English.
