This course provides an introduction to key authors, genres, periods, concepts, methods, and fields of research in US American literary and cultural studies. Particular emphasis is given to the analysis and theory of poetry, narrative prose (short stories, essays, novels, life writing) and dramatic texts as major genres in the respective literary periods. The course aims at offering students a profound and broad basis for textual analysis and research in future seminars and independent study. Furthermore, the course works well in combination or as a supplement with both "Analyzing and Interpreting Literary" texts and the "Survey in US. American Literature".
The seminar takes place in hybrid ("vor Ort" und "Online"), unless the Covid-19 restrictions prohibit it. That is, each session will be held in presence with the option to participate digitally (via Zoom) after consulting with the lecturer.
