In this study group, our primary objective will be to investigate the multifaceted role of games in the English L2 classroom and their affordances for language learning. Through in-depth discussions and practical applications (that includes trying out certain games ourselves, so come prepared for some fun), we aim to explore how the games we choose could be used to support interactive language learning and also the logistics of using them effectively in the classroom. Every member will be expected to participate regularly and actively, so we can design this study group and its specific topics in everyone’s best interest. Participants will also be required to each do a short presentation so we can make sure that everyone gains theoretical insights into how playing games can provide strong support for effective language acquisition. At the end of this study group, every participant should have knowledge of a broad repertoire of games for the language classroom, ready to be played.
