In this module, we will deepen the insights in chemical ecological approaches used for investigations of ecosystems and effects on environmental change on plant chemistry. Plants use numerous specialised metabolites for their defence against abiotic and biotic challenges. We will investigate how plant metabolism responds to challenges induced by environmental change, such as UV light, drought as well as combined abiotic stressors. Metabolite profiling of primary and specialised metabolites will be applied and involved enzyme activities measured. Furthermore, we will discuss effects of plant invasions on plant chemicals and environmental interactions. An excursion to a topic-related company will offer insights into potential future job options. Graded exam.
