239740 James Bond - the Genesis of a Cultural Icon (BS) (SoSe 2013)

James Bond is most likely the best known secret agent in the world. The movies featuring the Martini-drinking hero with a licence to kill have been an international success for half a century by now and some even claim Bond to be the most successful film figure of all times. Most of us have seen at least one Bond film, but who has read one of the original novels? Were they successful in their time? Are the film adaptations close to the books? What was altered from literary to film production and how did the hero-figure of 007 change over the years? Given the 50th anniversary of Bond in the fall of 2012, now is the time to address these questions.
