„Die Französische Revolution, Fichtes Wissenschaftslehre und Goethes Meister sind die größten Tendenzen des Zeitalters“, behauptete Friedrich Schlegel in seinen im Athenäum veröffentlichten Fragmenten von Goethes Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre (1795/96). Nicht nur für die Frühromantiker war der Roman ein Buch, das Epoche machte – literaturgeschichtlich gilt es als Prototyp des ‚Bildungsromans‘, der die Romanliteratur der Moderne maßgeblich prägte. Im Seminar werden wir uns dem Text durch intensive Lektüre schrittweise annähern, mögliche Gründe für seine Wirkmächtigkeit diskutieren und uns mit dem Genre des ‚Bildungsromans‘ auseinandersetzen.
