This seminar is obligatory part of the “Main module 4: Object disciplines” of the Master’s program “History, Economics, and Philosophy of Science (HEPS/ISoS)”. In the seminar students acquire methodological skills in science studies and they are advised to reflect on the sciences they study as object disciplines. More specifically, students submit a short paper in which they conncect their experience in the relevant object discipline with material from their HEPS/ISoS courses.
Object disciplines: ISoS students need to submit a 2,000 words essay which reflects on the interrelations between studying science and doing research. Each participant submits this essay (or a draft version), which will be discussed among the participants. The papers must be distributed at least one week in advance, a short version is presented for 10 minutes maximum, and it is commented upon by another participant for 5 minutes in the colloquium. A general debate of 30 minutes follows so that the entire slot adds up to 45 minutes. Each participant needs to submit and present and paper and to comment upon a paper submitted by another student.
