In the first part of the seminar we will address different forms of legal and social categorisations of migrants and mobile people. We will see how these categorisations are employed in academic and public discourses. Also, we will consider what the potential consequences of these categorisations might be for the lives of migrants, refugees and mobile people. In the second part of the course, students will identify one question of interest to them – related to the seminar topic – and develop their own small individual research projects. Students will elaborate individual posters summarising the most important aspects of their research project. In the third part of the course, the research projects will be presented and discussed.
This seminar will be taught completely in English. Students should be willing to prepare the classes by reading the indicated literature, to actively participate in the discussions during the sessions and to elaborate and present their own small research project.
The literature to be discussed in the seminar will be announced in the first session.
