In the module social structure analysis and social inequality we offer basic seminars in the winter semester and advanced theoretical or empirical courses in the summer semester (see Homepage: http://www.uni-bielefeld.de/soz/ab5/). This seminar is a theoretical advanced seminar. It asks about the relevance of work organizations for the generation of earning inequalities between heterogeneous groups (e.g. based on gender, migration background, qualification) in comparison to the importance of occupational structuring and the welfare state. In the seminar we first address the importance of organizational inequality regimes for earning inequalities based on relational inequality theory taking existing empirical research results into account (e.g. Tomaskovic-Devey 2014). Afterwards micro-class approaches (e.g. Weeden & Grusky 2012) and welfare state regime approaches (e.g. Esping-Andersen 1990; Mayer 2005, Leisering 2013) are compared with the organizational inequality approach.
