The main purpose of this seminar is to make sure that students have the ability to use grammatical structures and collocations appropriately and correctly in a variety of contexts. It will provide an overview of the grammatical structure of the English language and, via interactive tasks and classroom discussion, we will explore various areas of both basic and “advanced” grammar, with a strong emphasis on those that cause particular difficulties for German L1 users of English. Thus, I hope, you will not only gain greater assurance in your own use of English, but also pick up ideas for effective grammar instruction (which is useful even for those who are not planning to become teachers).

This seminar requires participants to engage in independent study activities that will provide practice in those areas of English grammar that are especially problematic for German learners in general as well as areas of individual difficulty. At least 70% of the classroom exercises and activities need to be completed to earn credit for this course. This work will help everyone assess their personal strengths and deficits in the mastery of English grammar and usage. There will be a not-for-marks test-like event in the course of the semester to provide feedback .
There is one Module Examination for all the Language Practice courses. (Basismodul 1).
