How do categories like race, class and gender relate to each other in ethnic or (post-)colonial discourses? Where are binary oppositions destabilized? How does heteronormative discourse construct femininity, masculinity and same-sex relationships?

If you would like to approach literary texts and cultural contexts through questions like these, then introduction to critical theory is right for you! This course offers a broad survey of key texts on Marxism, New Criticism and New Historicism, Poststructuralism, Deconstruction, (Post-) Feminism, Gender Theory, Multiculturalism, (Post-) Colonialism, Psychoanalysis (Deleuze and Guattari), and Border Discourses.
