The voluntary or forced movement of people from one region of the world to another has been a constant issue in human history. Migration has also always had significant political, ideological and psychological implications. With the more recent developments in globalization, migration has, once more, come into focus of scholarly scrutiny. At the same time, writers of fiction have increasingly attended to the reasons and effects of migration in the past decades. In this seminar, we will read key theoretical texts on the issues involved with migration as a social, political, psychological and aesthetic phenomenon.
Copies of all theoretical texts will be made available (print/online)

This class is a colloquium-style course, based on in-depth discussion of the theoretical texts. Preparation for each session therefore necessarily includes thorough reading of the texts distributed, as well as some additional exercises, which will be explained in class. Obviously, regular attendance is necessary.
