In this course, students will get introductionary lectures on the ECHR. The lectures will take place in U8-207 and are mandatory.
General topics include: the organization of the Court / admissibility criteria / different procedures / possible verdicts / how to read the Court's jurisprudence / general principles (f.e. margin of appreciation) / absolute and relative rights / negative and positive obligations.
Furthermore, some detailed aspects are discussed, such as the privilege against self-incrimination, the double jeopardy clause.

(Legal) English on a near native level, as the exam, the lectures and all material will be in English.

Students will need the English text of the Convention during the lectures.
