Liebe Physikstudierende,
wir freuen uns, dass Bielefeld nun auch eine Regionalgruppe der jDPG hat.
Vielleicht kennen einige unter euch die DPG schon vom Abiturpreis, denn
die Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft verfolgt das Ziel
deutschlandweit physikbegeisterte Menschen miteinander zu verbinden. Die
jDPG richtet sich als Arbeitskreis dabei explizit an junge Menschen und
veranstaltet jährlich verschiedene Events an ihren Standorten, vom
Stammtisch über Gespräche mit Professor:innen und Vertreter:innen aus
der Wirtschaft zu Besuchen bei Firmen und Forschungseinrichtungen und
beteiligt sich auch an den großen Veranstaltungskonzepten der DPG.
Ihr habt Lust mehr zu erfahren oder sogar schon eine Veranstaltungsidee.
Dann kommt am *11.06. um 16 Uhr in D01-249* vorbei, um euch mit uns
auszutauschen. Zur besseren Planung könnt ihr uns diese Mail

Moreover, we want to draw your attention to a series of upcoming events that YWTS is co-organizing with Mathe-Gleiko and Prof. Dr. Rebecca Waldecker that are open to students as well as early career researchers. Rebecca Waldecker is Professor for Mathematics, esp. Algebra, at Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. She obtained her PhD from Kiel University with work on group theory. In summer term 2024, Prof. Dr. Rebecca Waldecker is visiting Bielefeld's Mathematics Department as Gender Guest Professor. She is offering lectures, scientific talks, workshops, as well as individual coaching sessions, see flyer attached. Depending on the participant’s languages, the events will be held in English or German. YWTS Meet & Greet a Female Researcher with Prof. Dr. Cora Uhlemann

In the YWTS Meet & Greet a Female Researcher series, we invite role models who open up about their career paths, how they made important decisions, how they addressed situations of doubt or distress, and everything else you are curious about. We aim to invite one female reseacher from each of the BGTS faculties per semester, i.e., one physicist, one economist, and one mathematician. The third and last Meet & Greet of this summer term will take place on 5th June, where we will welcome the current Gender Guest Professor of the Mathematics faculty Rebecca Waldecker.
This weeks guest, Prof. Dr. Cora Uhlemann is a researcher in cosmology who has recently joined Bielefeld University, after working in Newcastle, Cambridge, Utrecht and at Munich’s LMU. Currently, she is co-leading Euclid Consortium and LSST Dark Energy Science Collaboration. With her ERC Starting Grant she starts a project called “Probing cosmic large-scale structure beyond the average”. Next to her research Cora is very invested in promoting equity for female researchers in STEM, e.g. via her facebook page where she provides a platform for women in physics.
