Coronavirus: Information and precautions to be observed

Published on 31. Januar 2020, 16:10 h
The university management is reacting to the current health situation regarding the coronavirus (2019-nCoV) and to the public health emergency of international concern declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on January 30, 2020.

All employees, students, third parties (e.g. external companies), and guests of Bielefeld University who can prove that they have been in China since January 1, 2020, whether for business, study, or private purposes, are requested not to enter the campus of Bielefeld University during the two weeks following their return. This is to minimize the risk of infection. In case of symptoms, a doctor must be contacted urgently. Even without symptoms of illness, the possible incubation period of two weeks must be observed. For employees of the university, this is a binding instruction in the form of a leave of absence with full remuneration for this period.

Teachers are requested to be accommodating towards students who are affected by this. For those affected, solutions will be found to avoid any disadvantages (e.g. having to take examinations).

Employees of Bielefeld University who are planning a work-related trip to China are requested not to travel to China for the time being. Any trip authorizations issued for China are hereby revoked. Once these precautionary measures have been lifted, which will be communicated separately, employees may reapply for travel authorizations.

Students at Bielefeld University who are planning study-related trips to China are asked not to travel to China until further notice.

This regulation applies to all students and employees (technical services, administration, and academia) as well as third parties (e.g. external companies) and guests. It is initially valid until further notice. The regulation covers the whole of the People’s Republic of China. Faculties and institutions are requested to inform affected persons who are not yet at Bielefeld University about these measures. This applies particularly to persons travelling from China for conferences, events, or the like.
Bielefeld University is taking these precautionary measures to protect all persons at the university. These measures are being updated on a regular basis regarding the current situation. This will be communicated separately.

Those affected can contact this address: coronavirus@uni-bielefeld.de

Information on the coronavirus and the current recommendations on official protective measures are available from the websites of the Robert Koch Institute, the Federal Foreign Office, and the Federal Ministry of Health.
