Opening of the SFB Exhibition project "Ver//Gleichen" (Comparing)

Veröffentlicht am 26. November 2018, 17:20 Uhr

After a lot of work, countless conversations, and setup excitement, the SFB 1288 exhibition project "Ver//Gleichen" (Comparing) was festively opened at the end of october 2018.

The event took place at the Historical Museum Bielefeld, beginning with a few welcome addresses and talks. Dr. Gerhard Renda, research associate at the Historical Museum, made a start by welcoming the guests, and included a little and profound disgression about the act of comparing from an outside perspective.
Subsequent to that, Prof. Dr. Johannes Grave, deputy spokesperson of the SFB and principal investigator of subproject Ö (Science Communication), introduced the SFB and shared some insightful observations about the situation of science in general and the role of science communication with the attendees.
As a representative for the City of Bielefeld, Gesa Fischer (Bielefeld Marketing, Project Coordinator of the 'WissensWerkStadt') talked about the interaction between science/the university and the City of Bielefeld. She especially addressed the role of the Humanities and the positive steps which are being taken, for instance by organizing an exhibition project like the SFB's "Ver//Gleichen".

Dr. Jürgen Büschenfeld and Rebecca Moltmann (Subproject Ö) finally presented the project itself which they curated together with Michael Falkenstein (Historical Museum). The different stations were introduced individually and supported by photographic impressions of the locations and structures. After the acknowledgements of all the involved SFB members, contractors, (financial) supporters and regional partners, snack and drinks were waiting to further discuss the project. Another highlight were the videos of the scientific participants of the SFB which could be watched at the Historical Museum.
