Comparing cities, or of Apples, Oranges, and Warheads
The SFB was already represented twice in the press at the beginning of 2019. Subproject B04 doctoral researcher Marie Lemser gave an interview in the Neue Westfälische (NW) in the science category. She talked about her research, her station of the SFB exhibition project "Ver//Gleichen" ('Comparing'), and covered a thematic range from the Greeks of the 4th century to contemporary comparisons of cities.
"The Security Times", specifically published for the Munich Security Conference, is a special edition newspaper in which outstanding journalists, high-ranking decision-makers, and renowned academics address key debates on current issues and challenges in international security policy. Mathias Albert and Thomas Müller (subproject A01) have contributed an article to this year's issue. In "Apples and oranges and warheads" they describe why and in what way a missing globally adopted database for military spendings affects the usefulness of these expenditures as a comparative measure.
