Frank Riedel Co-Organizes Closing Conference of ZiF Research Group

Veröffentlicht am 25. Mai 2016
Frank Riedel and Chris Shannon (University of California at Berkeley) are going to organize the conference Robust Finance and Beyond, to be held from May 30 to June 3 at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research at Bielefeld University (ZiF).
This conference marks the closing of the ZiF research group Robust Finance: Strategic Power, Knightian Uncertainty, and the Foundations of Economic Policy Advice which has been in residence at the ZiF from March to July 2015.
The conference is devoted to the ongoing topic of how to increase the stability of financial markets. In particular, the conference addresses issues related to the market power exerted on financial markets, a subject which is still very insufficiently understood. Furthermore, ideas for follow-up projects emerging from the work of the research group are going to be discussed.
Leading researchers from all over the world – from Berkeley and Chicago in the United States, from the Sorbonne in Paris, and from the Australian National University in Canberra, to name only a few – are going to present the results which they have obtained as members of the research group.

Workshop on Strategic Aspects of Optimal Stopping and Control in Economics and Finance organized by Frank Riedel and Giorgio Ferrari

Veröffentlicht am 3. Juli 2015
Frank Riedel and Giorgio Ferrari are organizing the workshop Strategic Aspects of Optimal Stopping and Control in Economics and Finance at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) on July 9 to 11.
The workshop Stategic Aspects of Optimal Stopping and Control in Economics and Finance discusses the latest developments in these topics with a particular emphasis on robust control and new ideas for strategic issues arising in this field. The workshop is thought as an informal forum for young researchers, as Ph.D. students, postdoctoral researchers, and young faculty members, to discuss their new results, exchange ideas, and further develop the study of optimal stopping, stochastic control, and dynamic games with applications to economics and finance. Senior researchers will give overview lectures on recent advances related to the field.
The workshop is the fourth event hosted by the ZiF Research Group Robust Finance: Strategic Power, Knightian Uncertainty, and the Foundations of Economics Policy Advice during its residence at the ZiF.

Workshop on the Foundations of Economic Policy Analysis organized by Frank Riedel

Veröffentlicht am 12. Juni 2015
Frank Riedel is organizing the workshop Foundations of Economic Policy Analysis at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) on June 17.
The workshop reflects the fundamentals of economic policy advice. To what extent can rationality-based economic models help to understand concrete political problems? Can such models be useful in answering legal or moral questions? As an application, we are going to place these questions in the framework of derivative trading scandals during the financial crisis.
The workshop is the third event hosted by the ZiF Research Group Robust Finance: Strategic Power, Knightian Uncertainty, and the Foundations of Economics Policy Advice during its residence at the ZiF.

Workshop on Knightian Uncertainty organized by Chris Shannon (Berkeley) and Frank Riedel

Veröffentlicht am 4. Juni 2015
Chris Shannon (University of California at Berkeley) and Frank Riedel are organizing a workshop on Knightian Uncertainty in Strategic Interactions and Markets at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) from June 10 to 13.
The workshop focuses on the role of ambiguity in strategic interactions and markets. It brings together research on the foundations of decision making under ambiguity with work on the importance of ambiguity throughout economics, particularly in games and markets. It features 26 invited talks by leading scholars in their field.
The workshop is the second large-scale event hosted by the ZiF Research Group Robust Finance: Strategic Power, Knightian Uncertainty, and the Foundations of Economics Policy Advice during its residence at the ZiF.

Workshop on Mathematics and Financial Economics organized by Ulrich Horst (Berlin) and Frank Riedel

Veröffentlicht am 12. Mai 2015
Ulrich Horst (Humboldt University of Berlin) and Frank Riedel are organizing a workshop on Mathematics and Financial Economics at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) from May 18 to 22.
The focus of the workshop is on topics related to the research group like strategic aspects in finance, i.e. large traders, market power, contracts, order books, Knightian uncertainty in finance, and robustness considerations. Other finance-related topics are welcome as well. It features 35 invited talks by leading scholars in their field.
The workshop is combined with an editorial meeting of the journal Mathematics and Financial Economics of which Ulrich Horst and Frank Riedel are the editors-in-chief.
The workshop is the first large-scale event hosted by the ZiF Research Group Robust Finance: Strategic Power, Knightian Uncertainty, and the Foundations of Economics Policy Advice during its residence at the ZiF.
