From April 18-22, 2017, ICVR's Boris Wilke
participated in an international workshop at Shota Rustaveli State University, Batumi, Georgia, as part of the project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies. The meeting was organized by Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin), Dr. Alexey Gunya
(Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Natalia Lazba and Dr. Ruslan Baramidze
(both Batumi). The workshop was attended by collaboration partners from
Batumi, Berlin, Maikop, Marburg, Nalchik, and Bielefeld.
From September 25-28, 2016, ICVR's Boris Wilke participated in an international workshop at Adyghe State University, Maykop, Russian Federation, as part of the project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies.The meeting was organized by Dr. Elena Kuhva (Maykop), Dr. Alexey Gunya (Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin) and Dr. Timur Tenov (Nalchik), and it was attended by collaboration partners from Batumi, Maikop, Nalchik, Sukhumi and Bielefeld. Wilke gave presentations on the organization and implementation of comparative research and assisted in developing research designn on governance, development and identity.
From July 23-28, 2016, ICVR's Boris Wilke and his collaborators in the ICCS project participated in the 24th World Congress of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) in Poznan, Poland. Wilke chaired panel CS04.66 "Resources and Institutions in Armed Conflicts and Political Development", which saw presentations from Alexey Gunya (Moscow/Berlin), Murat Shogenov & Timur Tenov (Nalchik), Jan Koehler (Berlin) and Kristóf Gosztonyi (Berlin); Anne Menzel (Marburg) served as discussant. In panel CS02.68 "Urban and Local Movements and Social Movement Politics", Wilke and ICVR fellow Yahaya K. Baba (Sokoto,) co-authored a paper "Violent Democrats? Understanding Urban Power Struggles in Nigeria and Pakistan".
In an interview with leading Austrian daily Der Standard on March 17, 2016, ICVR researcher Boris Wilke explained the significance of kite flying for
the drawing of boundaries between the religious and the secular in Pakistan (in German).
On November 27th, 2015, former ICVR associate Soha Farouk presented her paper "State-Society Dynamics in Egypt: The Twists and Turns of a Power Struggle" at an International Workshop at Philipps-University Marburg. The two-day workshop on "Security Provision in West Asia and North Africa in Times of Social and Political Change " was organoized by the University's Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies.
