Boris Wilke in ICCS Nalchik Workshop and Convention

From March 28th to April 1st, 2016, ICVR researcher Boris Wilke participated in an international workshop at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, Nalchik, Russian Federation, as part of the project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies. The meeting was organized by Dr. Alexey Gunya (Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin) and Dr. Timur Tenov (Nalchik), and it was attended by collaboration partners from Batumi, Berlin, Maikop, Nalchik, Sukhumi and Bielefeld. Wilke gave presentations on violence & development and in comparative research designs. On April 1st, all participants gathered for a Convention at the university's conference center, in order to share their ideas with representatives from universities of Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Vladikavkas, the state government, and youth organizations.

Boris Wilke in ICCS Batumi Workshop

From November 23rd to 28th, 2015, ICVR researcher Boris Wilke participated in an international workshop in Batumi, Georgia, which was part of the "Institution-Centred Conflict Studies – Applied Research Methods and Teaching in the Caucasus" research & transfer project. The meeting was organized by Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin), Dr. Alexey Gunya (Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Timur Tenov (Nalchik) and Dr. Ruslan Baramidze (Batumi). The workshop was attended by collaboration partners from Batumi, Berlin, Maikop, Marburg, Nalchik, and Bielefeld. Wilke gave presentations on conflict & development, comparative research designs and dissemination strategies.

José Alberto Salguero at IKG

On November 11th, 2015, ICVR associate José Alberto Salguero (currently: University of Göttingen), presented the findings of his project paper "Two Cities - Violent and Non-Violent Neighborhoods within the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador" at IKG. The meeting was well attended, and the paper found praise by a range of academics present on the occasion.

ICVR associate José Alberto Salguero at Criminology Conference

On September 2nd, 2015, ICVR associate José Alberto Salguero presented his paper “A Tale of Two Cities: Violent and Non Violent Neighborhoods within the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador” at the 15th Annual Conference of European Society of Criminology in Porto, Portugal. José, who holds a B.A. in Economics from the Fundación Dr. Guillemo Manuel Ungo in San Salvador, is currently working at the University of Göttingen.

Boris Wilke in ICCS Caucasus Summer School

From August 17th to 26th, 2015, ICVR researcher Boris Wilke taught at the ICCS International Summer School in Tegenekli, Kabardino-Balkaria, Russian Federation. The four-week summer school was the kick-off event for the collaborative project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies, which is carried out jointly by the Free University Berlin, the University of Marburg (Centre for Conflict Research), ICVR/IKG and the State Universities of Kabardino-Balkarian (Nalchik, Russia), Adygea (Maikop, Russia), Batumi (Georgia) and Abkhazia. The summer school at “Pensionat Elbrus” was organized by Dr. Timur Tenov (North Caucasus Graduate School of Conflict Studies, Nalchik), project director Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin), and project manager Dr. Alexey Gunja (Moscow/Berlin). It was attended by more than 30 ICCS teachers, students, and external experts from Russia, Georgia, Abkhazia, and Germany. Wilke gave courses on institutionalism, state theory, violence, development, and politics in Karachi.

Wilhelm Heitmeyer in IPSP Istanbul meeting

From August 27th to 29th, 2015, Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Heitmeyer, formerly director and currently Senior Research Professor at IKG, participated in the first meeting of the International Panel on Social Progress (IPSP) in Istanbul. The meeting was attended by more than 200 senior academics from around the world. IPSP is compiling a "Social World Report", along the lines of the reports on climate change. Heitmeyer is the German member in Chapter 10 "Violence, Wars, Peace und Security". He is collaborating with Prof. Wiewiorka (France), Dr. Stepanova (Russia), Prof. Shinoda (Japan), Prof. Aggestam (Sweden), Prof. Bellamy (Australia), Prof. Wallensteen (Sweden), Dr. Baake (UK). All chapter groups are working on empirical trends and theoretical approaches. The chapter’s next meeting will take place in February 2016 in Paris.

ICVR's Rosario Figari Layús and Sebastian Huhn at LASA 2015

ICVR researchers Dr. Sebastian Huhn and Rosario Figari Layús organized two panels for the 33rd International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The panel "Violencia en América Latina: Implicaciones sociales y estrategías políticas" was also attended by ICVR fellows Prof. Dr. Narda Henriquez, Dr. Maria Eugenia Ulfe (both Peru), Dr. Larissa Brioso, and Dr. Carlos Orellana (both El Salvador).
