General History with Special Emphasis on Contemporary History (20th/21st Centuries)
The successful candidate will be required to represent the area of contemporary history (20th/21st centuries, including the period of National Socialism) accross its full spectrum in teaching and research. The Bielefeld model asks for a theoretically oriented approach to the study of history. Furthermore, the successful candidate should be committed to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation with other research focuses internally and in other disciplines such as sociology, literary studies, and the Center for the Study of Conflict and Violence. In addition, the department of history requires active participation in various international study and exchange programmes, and in its major joint research projects such as the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology, the collaborative research centre SFB 1288 ‚Practices of Comparing‘, and projected research training groups.
The faculty considers gender equality of men and women as an important goal and expects the successful candidate to contribute to its furthering.

The concordance of these with the criteria as established by the department of history will be judged by the search and finding committee (§ 36 HG).
