Cornell Students from New York visit Bielefeld
As a result of an ongoing partnership, Bielefeld University and the University Fachsprachenzentrum recently hosted students from Cornell University in New York. The students were accompanied by Cornel University German Lecturer, Grit Matthias, and stayed for 9 days from 19.03.10 until 27.03.10. They made the trip during the ever famous "Spring Break", and while many of their friends were sunning themselves and partying on warm beaches, they were braving the less comfortable weather of Bielefeld in search of cultural understanding. Their goal was to discover how Germany copes with the challenge of integration.
They began their journey by arriving in Berlin, where they met with Green Party representative, Oezcan Mutlu. Then, after sampling a taste of the nations capital city, the students made the journey to Bielefeld. They were cordially welcomed to the University by "Prorektorin" Prof. Dr. Claudia Riemer. Students interviewed culturally and occupationally diverse individuals around Bielefeld. Local families and individuals opened their homes to these visitors from abroad and provided them with places to stay. The visit was a great success and hopefully this won't be the last.
