The aim of the Minor Subject in Chemistry is to add basic knowledge of Chemistry to another Major subject. Theoretical and experimental basics of the subject Chemistry are supplemented by in-depth courses. Students in this version of degree programme learn to understand and assess chemical processes in principle. They acquire basic knowledge in the core chemical subjects Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry and learn to work practically and handle chemicals safely in chemical laboratory practicals. At the same time, they are taught basic knowledge in safety and environmental issues.
Students of the Combined Bachelor's Degree with One Minor Subject in Chemistry have the opportunity to broaden their studies in mathematics and the natural sciences by choosing a STEM core subject. In addition to further qualification by taking up a Master's degree programme ˗ usually in the field of the major subject ˗, graduates of the combined Bachelor's degree programme also have the opportunity to aim for non-classical occupational fields. Depending on the combination variant, jobs in small and medium-sized companies in the chemical industry and related areas with a broader range of tasks that require knowledge of other disciplines, such as business administration, in addition to chemical knowledge, are conceivable. Possible fields of activity include quality assurance, human resources management or marketing. In addition, activities in the insurance industry (combination of Mathematics as a Major Subject and Chemistry as a Minor Subject) or in the field of scientific journalism (combination of Linguistics as a Major Subject and Chemistry as a Minor Subject) are also conceivable.
