The Bielefeld Master's programme in Philosophy places a strong emphasis on developing and discussing one's own philosophical contributions. This takes place in specially designated forums, the workshop seminars. This focus is not only on the professional practice of academic philosophy, but also specifically promotes those qualifications that make philosophy graduates successful in other professional fields: analytical-argumentative skills, skill in independently developing topics and the ability to write appropriate and convincing texts. These skills are sought after in a variety of professional fields, such as publishing, public relations, foundations, etc.

In the Master's programme, you will deal intensively with complex philosophical topics in small groups. Our Master's programme offers you a sound education in theoretical and practical Philosophy, while still allowing you to deepen your knowledge in one of these two areas. The graduate and workshop seminars are competently led teaching events and at the same time provide a forum for intensive discussion among the participants. The discussion is based on thorough textual study, for which the degree programme provides sufficient time. In addition to written skills, the presentation workshop trains you to give your first presentations under supervision. In the satellite seminar, you have the opportunity to work on your own topic ideas in small groups in guided self-study. In the department's colloquia, you also have the opportunity to discuss philosophical work with researchers at later career stages.

The Bielefeld Department of Philosophy offers a particularly suitable environment for advanced philosophy studies. The scientific expertise of the department (especially, but not only, in analytical Philosophy) also benefits you, as our teaching staff are discussion and contact partners for you.
