In this way, theory and practice are not mutually exclusive, but complement each other - one-sidedness is impossible!

The special feature of the Master's programme is the integration of competences in the humanities and social sciences with image processing and Text Technology. In this way, the degree programme combines the diverse expertise and potential of media studies at Bielefeld University and covers the subject area 'Media and Communication' in its entire breadth. In this way, the degree programme distinguishes itself from the profile of other media and communication studies degree programmes and, with its wide range of practical media competence, also offers autonomous and planning handling of media and 'new media' as well as their use as instruments of public communication or educational planning.

The developments currently taking place in the various fields of work and occupations in media-practical sectors are leading to a comprehensive demand for media competence. In this context, media competence is understood both as the acquisition of skills and knowledge in commissioning and operating the respective media as well as the systematic, critical and responsible reflection on the respective content offers and services of different media. The degree programme can be completed with the Master of Arts or the Master of Science and thus offers you optimal opportunities for individual profile formation. As a graduate of the Master's programme "Interdisciplinary Media Studies", in addition to the areas of press and broadcasting, publishing houses, production companies in the area of 'new media', public relations, advertising, online communication, regional media policy and education and cultural and media management are also possible occupational fields. Due to the research-oriented orientation, graduates of the degree programme also have very good prerequisites for a phd, doctorate.
