The degree programme Molecular Biotechnology at Bielefeld University is an interdisciplinary course with specialisations in the natural sciences. It is completed with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). During the first semesters, a solid knowledge is built up in the STEM subjects of chemistry, biology, physics, computer science and mathematics. Simultanously, the basics of biotechnology are taught. The programme focuses on bioprocess technology as well as molecular biology and (bio)informatics. The degree programme is characterised by a high proportion of practical events in the laboratory so that graduates receive a broad basis for further studies and are able to put the common technologies and methods of biotechnology into practice. As preparation for professional life, the programme is geared towards the requirements of the pharmaceutical and chemical industries and provides the necessary qualifications, such as

- Professional collaboration in the development of new processes and methods
- Carrying out development work
- Monitoring work processes in the technical centre with special requirements
- Carrying out, monitoring and analysing experimental tasks
- Visualisation and presentation of process or test results
