Curriculum Vitae

Philipp Cimiano studied computer science at the University of Stuttgart and the University of South Australia in Adelaide. After completing his degree in computer science, he earned his doctorate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in the chair of Prof. Dr. Rudi Studer at the Institute for Applied Computer Science and Formal Description Methods (AIFB).
For his (doctoral) thesis he received the Carl-Adam-Petrie Prize of the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at KIT. He also received his post-doctoral habilitation and Venia Legendi in Applied Computer Science from KIT.

After a short period as Assistant Professor at Delft University of Technology, he was appointed to the Faculty of Technology at Bielefeld University at the age of 31.

He found his enthusiasm early on, still during his diploma thesis, for research topics at the interface between language, semantics and knowledge. He is still actively researching at this interface today. In the course of his membership as Principal Investigator at the Cognitive Interaction Technology Excellence Center, he expanded his horizon and methodological spectrum in the direction of cognitive systems that act and interact in the real world.
He is pursuing the vision of speech-based interactive intelligent systems that possess comprehensive knowledge about their application domain and use this knowledge to act in a goal-directed and situationally appropriate manner.
