Wilke in ICCS Batumi Workshop

From April 18-22, 2017, ICVR's Boris Wilke participated in an international workshop at Shota Rustaveli State University, Batumi, Georgia, as part of the project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies. The meeting was organized by Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin), Dr. Alexey Gunya (Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Natalia Lazba and Dr. Ruslan Baramidze (both Batumi). The workshop was attended by collaboration partners from Batumi, Berlin, Maikop, Marburg, Nalchik, and Bielefeld.

Wilke in ICCS Teberda Workshop

From January 14-18, 2017, ICVR's Boris Wilke participated in an international workshop in Teberda, Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Russian Federation, as part of the project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies. The meeting was organized by Dr. Alexey Gunya (Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin) and Dr. Timur Tenov (Nalchik), and it was attended by collaboration partners from Batumi, Maikop, Nalchik, Sukhumi and Bielefeld. The participants discussed the contours of a international textbook on Institutions, Conflict and Development, to be published in 2018. Wilke gave presentations on the history of conflict research and on the nexus of conflict and violence.

Wilke in Karachi Conference

From November 26-27, 2016, ICVR's Boris Wilke participated in the international conference "The Challenges of Social and Human Development", Arts Auditorium, University of Karachi, Pakistan. The conference was organized by, inter alia, Prof. Dr. Moonis Ahmar, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Meritious Professor at the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi. It was attended by a number of renowned scholars, among them eminent economist Dr. Kaiser Bengali. Wilke gave a lecture on "Nexus of Violence and Development".

Wilke in ICCS Maykop workshop

From September 25-28, 2016, ICVR's Boris Wilke participated in an international workshop at Adyghe State University, Maykop, Russian Federation, as part of the project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies.The meeting was organized by Dr. Elena Kuhva (Maykop), Dr. Alexey Gunya (Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin) and Dr. Timur Tenov (Nalchik), and it was attended by collaboration partners from Batumi, Maikop, Nalchik, Sukhumi and Bielefeld. Wilke gave presentations on the organization and implementation of comparative research and assisted in developing research designn on governance, development and identity.

Wilke & ICCS collaborators at 24th IPSA World Congress in Poznan

From July 23-28, 2016, ICVR's Boris Wilke and his collaborators in the ICCS project participated in the 24th World Congress of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) in Poznan, Poland. Wilke chaired panel CS04.66 "Resources and Institutions in Armed Conflicts and Political Development", which saw presentations from Alexey Gunya (Moscow/Berlin), Murat Shogenov & Timur Tenov (Nalchik), Jan Koehler (Berlin) and Kristóf Gosztonyi (Berlin); Anne Menzel (Marburg) served as discussant. In panel CS02.68 "Urban and Local Movements and Social Movement Politics", Wilke and ICVR fellow Yahaya K. Baba (Sokoto,) co-authored a paper "Violent Democrats? Understanding Urban Power Struggles in Nigeria and Pakistan".

Wilke lecture on political violence in Zurich

On July 1, 2016, ICVR's Boris Wilke gave a lecture "Political Violence: theoretical approaches and empirical data" at the University of Zurich's Master Program in Applied History. The course covered conceptual, methodological policy aspects. A lively discussion ensued from the juxtaposition of state-monopolized and self-help control regimes, with particular reference to the global South.

Boris Wilke in ICCS Nalchik Workshop and Convention

From March 28th to April 1st, 2016, ICVR researcher Boris Wilke participated in an international workshop at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, Nalchik, Russian Federation, as part of the project on Institution Centered Conflict Studies. The meeting was organized by Dr. Alexey Gunya (Berlin/Moscow), Dr. Jan Koehler (Berlin) and Dr. Timur Tenov (Nalchik), and it was attended by collaboration partners from Batumi, Berlin, Maikop, Nalchik, Sukhumi and Bielefeld. Wilke gave presentations on violence & development and in comparative research designs. On April 1st, all participants gathered for a Convention at the university's conference center, in order to share their ideas with representatives from universities of Moscow, Rostov-on-Don, Vladikavkas, the state government, and youth organizations.

Boris Wilke comments on kite flying in Pakistan

Soha Farouk presented paper at Marburg workshop

On November 27th, 2015, former ICVR associate Soha Farouk presented her paper "State-Society Dynamics in Egypt: The Twists and Turns of a Power Struggle" at an International Workshop at Philipps-University Marburg. The two-day workshop on "Security Provision in West Asia and North Africa in Times of Social and Political Change " was organoized by the University's Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies.
